| A river is a symbol of life where creation is always flowing and nothing is stagnant. Where collaboration is born and life is regenerated in the depths of strong currents or in the swirling of gentle pools . . . beside flourishing riparian banks. In that spirit, RIO ARTS was born in the fall of 2006 when a group of artists and friends saw the need to bring the arts to life in the small and growing com-munities of Riverbank, Oakdale, Escalon, Salida and Central Valley, California. Inspired by a Riverbank High School student and community collaborative production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, these students, artists and thespians were rewarded by the rich exchange of creativity, artistry and brilliance through the mentorships they had created. The artistic professionalism and the personal growth experienced by each participant proved to be one of the most unique and memorable collaborations ever. More artists and thespians were invited to join, each specializing in a working knowledge of the arts, and a board of directors was formed. The volunteer board of directors is comprised of a diverse group of professional artists, educators and business people from the surrounding areas whose goal is to create pathways to the arts through mentoring for amateur, emerging and professional artists. Rio Arts presently seats voting directors in the following disciplines of the arts: Dramatic Theatre, Musical Theatre, Music Performance, Dance Performance, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Photography and Audio/Visual Production. It is supported by a Managing Director and an Artistic Director that ‘bookend’ these artistic and technical directors. The group is also looking to add a Director of Writers & Poets and a Director of Independent Filmmaking to round out a universe that represents all of the arts. The Administrative Board is comprised of a Chairman of the Board, who also serves as the Director of Future Development. It also includes a Vice Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and Directors of Community Outreach and Volunteer Coordination. A Youth Representative also is a voting member and will serve as an earpiece and voice of the youth in the community. Our guiding principles are: |
